If He Sends Me, I’ll Go.

Spiritual authority is delegated and must therefore must be used only under divine direction. Jesus, operating through the Holy Spirit, is the preacher not me. Therefore, whenever I am invited to preach or teach, the first thing I do is pray to find out if God is sending me to that particular meeting at that particular time. In addition, I weigh it in the light of what God has shown me prior to that moment concerning the season that I am in regarding my life and ministry. These factors help determine whether or not the mighty and effective witness of Holy Spirit will be present to truly save, heal, deliver, and set free through me at that meeting.

Therefore, my decision to go and minister or not has nothing to do with my opinion of the inviting ministry, my personal ambitions, or my feelings. It has everything to do with a reverence for the manner in which Kingdom authority operates. The power of God can appear anywhere at any time to bring explosive results. But those results are not always enduring when the authority of the Spirit moving through yielded vessels is lacking. Thus, both I and the individuals requesting my presence must humble ourselves to the reality of these matters in order to insure maximal impact for the glory of God.

Jesus says in John 5:19, Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” Romans 10:15 says “How can they preach unless they are sent.” Elsewhere in Isaiah 30:1, Israel is rebuked for making plans without God’s approval. These are just a few of the scriptures which fly in the face of a carefree, haphazard, “favor for a favor” approach to doing ministry where we recklessly jump on any and every platform offered to us as Christian ministers of various stripes.

Sometimes it’s simply a matter of timing. Maybe not now but later. Maybe not me but someone else for that occasion and I, by God’s grace, can help find the right person. Maybe the answer is indeed “YES” and right away. At any rate, God knows what is best for His people. And regardless of how badly I may want to serve a given assembly, I must always remember that I don’t love them more than Jesus. Therefore, where He leads, I will follow. When we do things this way, moving prayerfully, patiently, and in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, great things happen. Thanks for reading.
