When you play and/or sing to worship music with your children, close your eyes, lift your hands if you can, let tears flow if they come, and allow God to help you empty and re-fill your soul in their presence. Why? Because we don’t just want them to hear what we are saying, we want them to see where we are going. We want them to know that worship takes you somewhere beautiful, somewhere safe, somewhere empowering, somewhere disarming, somewhere real, In short, we want them to know that worship takes them somewhere with Jesus.
Please…
Be bold in your worshipful witness in the presence of your child—and any child for that matter. Go after the sustainer of your life with intentional exuberance and passion. Any embarrassment falls on Jesus not you. Don’t just tell your children the way. Show them the way. Jesus is the way. And do you know the means by which we come to know and regularly experience Jesus? Worship. Not just the songs of praise that we sing, but the life of faith that we live on a daily basis.
This is why our lively expressions of love and desire toward God are so important as you sing. Those intimate spiritual moments are ultimately prophetic acts of submission showing the reign of Jesus in our hearts and our surrender to the governing authority of His Spirit. Indeed, when done in sincerity, worship of this sort demonstratively declares the promises of scripture that assure our unending victory through Christ.
Take Psalm 91:14-16 for example. It reads, “Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows My name. When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. I will satisfy him with a long life and show him My salvation.” Worship in effect channels and even hastens the manifestation this truth. Your exuberant worship evidences the your love for God, which insures and forecasts that God will satisfy you with long life and and show you His salvation. Whether your child knows it or not, your example is imprinting them with a vision of hope and a promise of deliverance.
As goes the head, so goes the body. So lead them, parents, and they will follow. I declare to you that if you will get lost freely, eagerly, and consistently in God before the eyes of your children, it will deposit in your child a beautifully haunting vision of their destiny in Christ. It will engrave a powerful picture of God’s grace and mercy within their minds. And it will accomplish what your mere words could never accomplish, preaching a dramatic, demonstrative, and enduring message of joyful surrender to their Heavenly Father and yours.
